Jacob Herrera Wachal is proud to present his MFA thesis exhibition, Handumanan sa Pamilya, at Cleo the Gallery’s new space, located on 915 B Montgomery Street. Handumanan sa Pamilya, a Cebuano phrase which translates to “memories of family”, is a body of work that reflects on the mediated experience of the Filipino diaspora in America in relation to the Western colonial photographic archive. Through the construction of a multifaceted family album that surveys over one hundred years of advancements in imagemaking and image-reproducing technologies, the impacts of perspective and intentionality are emphasized when considering issues surrounding the photographic truth-claim. An artist’s reception will be held at the space on Thursday, June 1st, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm, and is free and open to the public. Savannah Filipino Authentic Cuisine will be providing a variety of Filipino foods, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten sensitive options. Private viewings are available May 31st-June 6 by contacting the artist.
